MY DAYS IN RETIREMENT

Oh My, That Was Sooo Good!

Just a really quick posting this time around. Our anniversary (16 years if you please!!) was this past Thursday. Not really knowing too many fancy restaurants, we booked reservations at what is really becoming my favourite dining spot in the entire Niagara Region – The Keg – in St. Catharines. I’m old fashioned – I love a really good steak with some kind of potato and a tasty veg. The Keg has delivered those loves each and every time we’ve been. This newly updated restaurant in a beautifully renovated old brick building has a lovely ambience of warmth and friendliness. The food is varied enough that even a 3-year old boy sitting at the next table was able to have a great meal that he actually ate all of, and without Mom’s coaching!! Naturally, being the beef lover that I am – and only good Canadian beef – I ordered the Teriyaki Steak done to perfection, accompanied by light and fluffy baked potato and grilled vegetables that were crunchy and ooooh so good. Nat had the same and being the fish lover that he is even agreed that his meal was wonderful.

While enjoying the last of our wine, our very friendly waitress laid in front of us a plate of their infamous Billy Miner Pie – a large slice of mocha ice cream on a bed of chocolate crust with hot fudge, caramel and almond slices – containing a lit sparkler and compliments of the house! Nat and I dug in despite the fact we like to wait an hour or so before dessert. It was gorgeous, delicious and yummy all at the same time.  I couldn’t have asked for a better anniversary meal. Thank-you Love of My Life!!!

Born and raised in a small town in Ontario, Canada, with 5 sisters and a brother. Now retired, my husband and I travel, play golf and am slowly renovating our new (old) home. After my kidney transplant in 1999, we've learned to enjoy life to the fullest. Nat and I have driven across Canada, taken an Alaskan cruise and drove home via the Northern United States. We've also been to Mexico, the Caribbean, the East Coast of Canada and Cape Breton. We've done the "Snowbird" thing, having lived in Destin, Florida for a couple of months of the year. In 2007 we changed our travel plans in order to move into and renovate our new "old" home, but hope to someday get back on the road again. We also love returning to Scotland (Nat's origin of birth) to visit his family and tour the Highlands and surrounding Isles.
