The Fireworks Fizzled

This July 1st was a definite dud – no fireworks for us.  The only positive thing today was that the mailbox is back up and running.  Nat had a hell of a time getting the spike and post into the ground. There’s so much debris – pebbles, rock, clay and stuff – that it was extremely hard for him to get the spike hammered in securely, and had to end up using cement. We seriously considered using a solid steel post instead of the 4 x 4, so if it ever happens again (God forbid!!) that the idiot driver would come to full and sudden stop!!!! But better heads prevailed, however!! At least Nat and I had a good laugh thinking about it!!!!

While Nat was digging and mixing cement, I managed to assemble the little doodads for the mailbox – the red flag, the lock tabs and the two little handles (we bought a front and back door mailbox). I’m very good at assembling things – all that Ikea furniture you buy when you’re single!! At least it took 20 minutes off of Nat’s time and I was feeling so guilty that I couldn’t help in any other way.

This was not exactly what we had planned for today, but we had to get the mailbox back up before delivery resumed tomorrow. The deed is done and hopefully we can get caught up on what we had originally planned two days ago!! So much for going to our first Friendship Festival.  We’ll have to try next year.

Susan and the kids were suppose to come by today before they leave for Florida on Friday, but they never made it. I have to assume she’s doing a thousand things to get ready before they leave and never had time to head over this way. It’s just as well, as we wouldn’t have been much company – what with the mailbox and all. Hopefully they’ll make it by before they leave, as Papa Nat and Nana need to squeeze and hug the kids before they depart for a couple of weeks. Felicia should enjoy taking her own pictures this time around using the new camera she received for graduation.

Tonight Nat’s gone to Lucas’ baseball game on his own. I’m in one of those “pissed off” moods (leftover from yesterday) and thought it best I stay away. I suppose I should have gone – to keep Nat company and Lucas always perks me up whenever I see him – but too late now, that ship has sailed. Otherwise, Nat’s already left!!

Born and raised in a small town in Ontario, Canada, with 5 sisters and a brother. Now retired, my husband and I travel, play golf and am slowly renovating our new (old) home. After my kidney transplant in 1999, we've learned to enjoy life to the fullest. Nat and I have driven across Canada, taken an Alaskan cruise and drove home via the Northern United States. We've also been to Mexico, the Caribbean, the East Coast of Canada and Cape Breton. We've done the "Snowbird" thing, having lived in Destin, Florida for a couple of months of the year. In 2007 we changed our travel plans in order to move into and renovate our new "old" home, but hope to someday get back on the road again. We also love returning to Scotland (Nat's origin of birth) to visit his family and tour the Highlands and surrounding Isles.
