MY DAYS IN RETIREMENT

Goin’ To Town

Went into town today! Sounds like an old farm hand telling the farmer what he did on his day off!!!! But that’s what we did. Had to go to Costco for some food items, so we decided to wipe out the Christmas lists we received from the kids. We planned our route that morning – Costco, Fairview Mall, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and then the Pen Centre – grabbed our lists and away we went.

And believe it or not, we got ‘er done – or at least 99%. We ended up being short 2 items and we can get those “down the road” at the Fort Erie Wal-Mart (or at least we hope). But My God we were tired. We left at 9:30 a.m. and didn’t get home until 3:00 p.m. Plus for the first time we had to fight other Christmas shoppers for certain games, etc. In past years Nat and I have always had our Christmas shopping done at least a month in advance and being so late this year was a real shocker for us!!!! The people, the empty shelves, the traffic, the people – my God, the people!!! Where do they all come from on a weekday – doesn’t anyone work any more??? On top of everything, Nat and I are still tired (mentally and physically), the weather was rainy and just plain mucky, and then having to deal with some nutty people out there, was a bit more than we could handle. So how we got it done is beyond me – but we did it and come hell or high water we ain’t doin’ that no more!!!!

We’re planning on staying put tomorrow and get back to cleaning up some more rooms – the office still needs to be organized, along with the linen closet and dining room. After that we may have to hit the basement just to clear debris (boxes, bubble wrap and whatever else pops up). At least the living quarters are coming along pretty good and we’re pleased with the results. The bathroom is the one exception and we plan to just gut that sucker in the new year!! Nothing like a good clear out!!!

Born and raised in a small town in Ontario, Canada, with 5 sisters and a brother. Now retired, my husband and I travel, play golf and am slowly renovating our new (old) home. After my kidney transplant in 1999, we've learned to enjoy life to the fullest. Nat and I have driven across Canada, taken an Alaskan cruise and drove home via the Northern United States. We've also been to Mexico, the Caribbean, the East Coast of Canada and Cape Breton. We've done the "Snowbird" thing, having lived in Destin, Florida for a couple of months of the year. In 2007 we changed our travel plans in order to move into and renovate our new "old" home, but hope to someday get back on the road again. We also love returning to Scotland (Nat's origin of birth) to visit his family and tour the Highlands and surrounding Isles.
